What a long strange week it was...
Oktoberfest kicked (and is still kicking) our behinds at work. Friday was busy, Saturday was hell, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were bad too. I hit serious waitress and work burnout, culminating in hitting myself in the face with a walk-in cooler door on Tuesday evening. Ah, such a fine moment. I am THE most graceful girl in the entire world!
Saturday was the strangest night by far, as well as being the busiest. Yeah, I cried at work that night. Understaffed and packed is no way to run a restaurant. Waited on a party of 11 with obnoxious children that the parents let run around the alley, climb the trees and otherwise get in the way. They (along with my 6-top, 2 4-tops, and 2 2-tops) ran my ass pretty hard. And then this oh so wonderful group left me a grand total of a $5 tip on their $221 tab. Yep, that's 5, five, dollars on 221. That hurt. But there was no time for that pain, only time for the pain of being sat a bunch of new tables.
And then it rained. And we had to get the big tarp that covers the patio open before the pooling water ripped holes in the newly repaired seams. So Jon, Jenny, Laurel and I were out in the pouring rain for almost an hour. Jon on the roof, Jenny on the roof of the hut, me on the ground by the winch and fountain, which after about 25 minutes I stepped in, soaking my leg up to my knee....
After our "heroic" efforts we managed to get that blasted tarp open. And then tragedy struck....Jenny fell coming down the trellis, dislocating her toe. OW! It was quite unpleasant to look at, bent backwards and such. So we help her hobble in to the restaurant between Jon and I, all of us soaked to the core and muddy as all get out. Drove Jenny to the ER at Abbot and waited with/for her. Laurel came by too. Finally around 2:30 we got out of the ER, and went to get her perscription at the 24 hour Walgreens on Hennipen. Dropped Laurel and then Jenny at home and made my drive to Flaketown. Finally made it home around 4 am. Found out the next day that her husband got mad that I was the one that drove her home. I still can't believe that he hates me that much.
Work continued to be hellish. Monday I waited on 14 Red Hats (anyone who has worked a service job and who has had to deal with a group of red hat ladies can feel my pain, I'm sure) as well as a bunch of others. Had to wait tables, cook my orders, and tend bar for a while during the afternoon. Hung out with Ann, Rick, Matt and Rob that night. Same old story for Tuesday and Wednesday (3 on each night....).
Went to see Tim Burton's Corpse Bride on Wed afternoon. I have to say I was a little disappointed. It was good, but not great. Gorgeous, but missing something. And the music didn't hold a candle to that of Nightmare Before Christmas.
Yesterday on my first day off in a LONG time, I had the pleasure of going to the dentist, and helping move a big metal desk with Zadams (a friend of Matt's) in the evening. Good points of the day included getting the pics of the wedding I shot in August to the Bride and Roxanne (which came out alright *phew!!!!*), and having dinner at Mickey D's w/ Rob (high point= company, not food), as well as the 2 new books and 2 new magazines I bought at Barnes and Noble. Went out with Matt, Martha, his brother Jeff and Jeff's girlfriend for part of the Lyndale Bar Tour (for Jeff's 21st). I was the 5th wheel, which =ed AWKWARD. It got a bit better after a while though.
A strange day all in all yesterday. There were lots of disconnects, and I don't really feel like I was interacting on the same plane as anyone all day. Weird. Other people I talked to felt similarily. Maybe it was the weather.
Today I sat in front of my computer editing photos all day.
Downloaded some new music off ITunes.
My eyes hurt.
Think it's time for bed....Tomorrow is work again. *sigh*
